Grey Cap Company Privateers
Pirate Captain: “Lt.” Harland O’Carmody
Species: Shinx
Gender: Male
Characteristics: Good Endurance
Nature: Bold
Pirate Type: Privateer
Accessories:
1xDark grey forage cap- Apparently standard issue for some elements of the Navy, but not apparent enough for him to be instantly picked out as a soldier. The grey color is also simply cheap, which makes for a good cover. “I just stole it off a Navy wreck…”
1xBlack Knapsack- A small knapsack, with proper attachments for military duty-- a rifle holster, an ammunition pouch, a powder horn, a bedroll, and an empty scabbard. A bit harder to hide…it is also now empty. “Stole it from the same wreck…”
-Harland’s ‘ear stars’ have been painted over with smaller, five-pointed, white stars. This is apparently in homage to his home town.
Movesets:
Spark- He DID use it to put an electrical edge on his bayonet or sword. When he had those…
Snarl- Great to use as you’re charging on some poor sod about to receive your bayonet! Being from Four Bridge Bay seems to have a certain effect on it, allowing the move to reverberate and create some rather otherworldly sounds that rattles minds in some sort of almost eldritch way*.
Crunch- …-atize me, Cap’n!
Discharge- O’Carmody’s normal sidearm, usually when he’s surrounded or getting overwhelmed
Bio:
Personality-
Hidden behind a gentlemanly and thoughtful officer’s façade is a somewhat rash and impatient privateer with no idea where he is going. This is not to call him incompetent or stupid—he is fairly educated for someone in this day and age, he’s just easily confused some times when he is blitzed with a problem that he is not used to and has no time to prepare for. He is prone to simply throwing everything to the wind and charging head first in situations like this, though he’s just as likely to pretend that he’s doing that as well. A little gullible when he doesn’t sense any reason to be apprehensive, but that said, he IS in a world of pirates now, and he’s the type to always do a quick check of his pockets in the event someone on the street passes him too closely.
History-
Lt. Harland O’Carmody is the ‘captain’ of the Grey Cap Company and a former Marine Sharpshooter for the Marisian Navy. He and his now-partner CWO Marceline de Bonheur were separated from the rest of their battle group when they were assigned to guard the extreme flanks of their land forces, at which point the battle lines and ships disappeared and they both assumed that they were abandoned. Although his partner has significantly more experience than him
O’Carmody is a young Shinx fresh out of cadet school from a land called Four-Bridge Bay and the town of Far-Bridge Town. He speaks with a Virginia Plantation-esque Southern drawl. As a civilian, O’Carmody spent a good amount of his young life working at a loom, weaving his life away in the textile industry his home town was known for. In his mind, however, the work was pointless—not only was this boring, but no sooner did the Bay become prosperous did it become a major target for pirate raids.
The towns around Four-Bridge Bay suffered visibly soon after these attacks started. The textiles they produced here were not some sort of magical golden fleece spun into wool; what they made here was cotton, normal Mareep’s wool, Ariados silk, and flax seeds, they simply were the only settlement on Maris nearby them that cared to produce them in number. They needed every bit of their stock to stay in good wealth, and since so much of it was being stolen now, they began a rather quick descent into poverty. Things were made worse when a few pirates, trying to rectify the general opinion of them among the towns on the Bay, decided to play Robin Hood and robbed the ‘decadent’ elite class of planters that ran the private industries in the towns and delivered an amount of the gold to the poorer classes. This was a fine bit of news for all but a day or two after it happened…until several of those elite planters declared that they had taken such heavy losses that many of them had to close half of the businesses that hadn’t closed down before already! It became clear that pirates in general should never be allowed to operate near here, and the region’s support for the navy reached a dizzying high.
O’Carmody had lost his own job as well. Being an employee of one of the various industrial barons that was robbed, he found himself now nearly poor enough to be out of house and home. He disliked his job (and lamented that he was actually related to a planter family that now couldn’t support him either—but that’s a different story), but he never wanted to lose it! The minute he hit the streets, he made a beeline for the nearest Naval recruiter and nearly enlisted, though his family, upon finding out of his intentions, stopped him and used a large portion of what was left over of their money to put him through cadet school so he could become an officer properly.
The young Shinx often liked to go target shooting in his spare time, and the practice shown when he was being trained. He was near the top of his marksmanship class even though the rest of his grades were average or sometimes subpar, and he was assigned as a sharpshooter for the Naval Marines. He was given the finest quality rifle that the Navy could afford, assigned to a ship, and set off to sea to find his revenge—and hopefully re-find his fortune. Little did he know he would end up essentially becoming a pirate himself…
O’Carmody now commands the rather minimal crew of the Grey Cap Company, jumping down from a 40-mon ship to a 4-mon one is a bit jarring, especially now that he is surrounded by enemies, but it doesn’t seem that he has a choice. As a marine, he has a tiny bit less experience crewing a ship than would a dedicated sailor, but his training does its job. He hopes that he can find another rifle sometime soon, as despite his charge-and-smash based move set, he would really rather get back to his job of hanging back and away and sniping. Until then, he’s the crew’s brawler as well as its leader.

"All righ' yes, that 'm, that soun's abou' right..."

Gunner: CWO1 “Chief” Marceline de Bonheur
Species: Lileep
Gender: Female
Characteristics: Highly Curious
Nature: Quirky
Pirate Type: Privateer
Accessories:
1x Grey Forage Cap- Standard issue cap for some elements of the Navy. Cheap and gruff, but it keeps out the sun. Not that you would wanna keep out the sun most of the time, that stuff’s great!
1x Small Box-shaped Bag- A small pouch attached by a belt to her ‘waist’.
Movesets:
Energy Ball- Finding herself in want of a cannon proper, she simply uses what she can get her suction cups on: a powerful blast of energy she shoots with gusto, often shaking the ship she’s on—and obliterating the target. She can also put some weight into her attack so that it can travel in different arcs.
Ingrain- She puts a lot of strength into her main attack, and that requires her to be stalwart in her footing—unshakably so!
Stealth Rock- Used to protect herself in case enemies get too close
Rock Slide- When all you have is a rock…
Personality-
A relaxed and bouncy demeanor for someone whose spent years of their life in the military, Marceline
Bio-
Chief Warrant Officer Marceline de Bonheur is the first mate and main gunner of the crew of the Gray Cap Company, and a former Marine Field Gunner for the Naval Marines. She and her now-commander Lt. Harland O’Carmody were separated from the rest of their battle group when they were assigned to guard the extreme flanks of their land forces, at which point the battle lines and ships soon disappeared and they both assumed that they were abandoned.
Ms. Bonheur is a seasoned artillerist in the land detachments of the Navy. She speaks with a French-Canadian Quebecois accent. During her civilian life, grew up as a farm girl in a cold, northern trading town known as Sept-Iles.  It was a small settlement, existing up until about forty years ago as a post-medieval factory (that is, a settlement which is merely a trading post for the merchant companies). While her home’s environments were a beautiful sight to behold and a colorful, if small, cast of characters was usually present to give some variety, the barren, cold stretches of land bored her to no end. She would farm potatoes, sell them to the merchants, and go home. It was repetitive, it was cold, and she could barely stand it.
The opportunity for her to leave presented itself in a visit from a marine corps officer coming to the little town to set up a small outpost for the Navy. She approached him almost as soon as she found out who he was. She’d heard stories of the Navy before—traveling the Maris ocean, protecting Pokémon, saving other from pirates, seeing the world, and just generally going on swashbuckling adventures! Of course, it was hardly that simple she knew, and she took some time to think about it before the officer appeared, but  The recruiter was pleasantly surprised; he didn’t expect to actually find anyone to recruit here, but he happily helped her fill out some enlistment forms and send her on her way to be trained.
Bonheur was signed on to be part of a light artillery crew and was sent straight away to a field artillery school in the Navy-held territory in the Maris. She struggled a little at first, having being taught various attacks and operation of a proper cannon at the same time, and having to apply both relatively quickly, but she distinguished herself once she was actually deployed to work on various coastal defense batteries. In her two years serving in the Navy, she had personally sunk five ships on her own and fought a number of small-time pirates first-hand. Within a few months of fighting at sea, she had already become a sergeant, and she nearly as quickly became a Chief Warrant Officer-2. She had found the adventuring life she had searched for, and she was good at it. However, she had yet to take part in a pitched battle, an opportunity she would have one day when she was assigned to a battle group that had a certain Shinx in it …
Bonheur does what she had when she was in the Marines, albeit without a proper cannon (for now) and in a much more ‘liquid’ environment. She lazily allowed O’Carmody to take command of their little dinghy that they call a ship. He technically outranked her anyway, and really, she was happy to be able to leave the rank and file so that she could have adventures on her own watch.

Application for :iconpmd-buccaneers:

The Grey Cap Company is a mercenary company of privateers operating in the Maris Ocean at the behest of the Navy. While they often try to make a minor attempt to hide their former Navy background, anyone whom hangs around them for a few hours can see that their equipment is clearly not stolen.
