Description

Hyval Fesko the Emolga

Occupation
: Navigator (... and Safety Manager)

Gender: Male      Age: 21

Nature
: Modest    Characteristic: Often lost in thought

Ability: Static
Even more so than other Emolgas, Hyval emits a lot of static charge thanks to his body becoming used to being regularly, passively sapped. However, because it is often being sapped away, it is ineffective while he is charging his battery.

Moves

1) Electroball (Toroid Cannon)
"Time to Amp it up!"

His bread and butter when it comes to fighting. Hyval creates a powerful instance of ball lightning by super-charging the air around him into a plasma state and focusing it into a self-sustaining, circuit-like torus of electricity, which appears to the naked eye in the form of a plasmatic orb. When combined with his Toroid Stabilizer, its power and speed increase dramatically, able to travel at speeds approaching 1250 m/s. Impact at this speed will result in the plasma bursting violently enough even to cause (Normal-type) harm to Pokemon that would otherwise be immune to Electric-type attacks.

Hyval can use the Toroid Stabilizer three times off of a full battery. Afterwards he will be able to project one more for about every 5 seconds that he doesn't use Electric-type attacks, given that he is well-rested. It takes about 15 seconds to charge the battery from empty to gain the power necessary for a single charge.

2)  Acrobatics
"Yeeeeeaaah, bye."

Hyval's job isn't to fight, it's to navigate and draw up charts. He can use this as an attack and he's probably bragged about his martial arts ski-- erm, experience-- before, but he's weighed down by his equipment and so it's primarily for use as an evasive technique.

3) Thunder Wave
"I know I could learn Nuzzle but eh... look, it's not you, it's me."

Hyval releases a finely-tuned beam of electricity that is at such a frequency that it can disrupt nerve signals and render targets numb. Can be used in sync with the Toroid Stabilizer to increase range and accuracy, as well as apply a tiny bit of a bite, thereby essentially turning this into a ranged Nuzzle.

4) Signal Beam
"My friends'll be here any minute now, and when they get here, you'll be sorry!"

Hyval projects a colorful, intense beam of light. He normally uses this as more of a tool than a weapon, shooting it into the sky to signal other members of his Guild or to illuminate areas of dense fog. It's also less strenuous to use than the Toroid Cannon against enemies that can match him in speed.

Items

1) NAV Bag
Despite the focus on a certain other tool, this is more essential to his trade. The Nav Bag has built into its frame all the basic tools that an aviation-based navigator would need. Namely, it contains a full set of both Pitot-Static (Altimeter, Airspeed Indicator, Vertical Speed Indicator) and Gyroscopic (Heading Indicator, Attitude Indicator, Turn Coordinator) instruments. To sum them up, Pitot-Static instruments measure changes in air pressure, where as Gyroscopic Instruments are tools that give relative locations and attitudes from certain fixed points. Small gauges indicating each line the inside of the rim of the helmet. Difficult to use, but, oh well.

The antenna protruding from the back is attached to a radio-like device operating in a similar way to the natural long-ranged communication seen in Dedenne. As the Guild is the only one in possession of such "mechanical radios" that is known of, the signals of this and most devices like it are fixed on a single frequency, which cannot be changed without the case being opened and the transceiver being manually tuned. It's a young technology still.

...oh, and it does have some storage space. Mainly for food, some berries, and papers. Not much else.

2) Cell Battery-- Rechargeable
A rechargeable version of the more common Cell Battery item. It carries the charge for both the NAV Bag and the Toroid Stabilizer, and charges at the cost of his utilization of his Static ability.

The Battery is not connected to the rest of his equipment nor body by any wires. Instead, currents travel across the electromagnetic fields generated by his body.

3) Toroid Stabilizer
Easily the most advanced piece of equipment that Hyval carries with him and certainly the most glamorous. The Toroid Stabilizer is, put simply, an electrolaser which he uses to guide, amplify, increase the range of, and accelerate his Electroball to dizzyingly powerful levels. The extent of its power is described above.

The Toroid Stabilizer works by ionizing the gas in the air and superheating it to form it into an electrically-conductive channel of plasma. The laser may only form for a moment, but the plasma it leaves behind will linger just long enough to pull Electric-type attacks along its length. In the case of Orb-based attacks in the vain of Electroball, Volt Switch, or Zap Cannon, projectiles following the path will both feed off of the plasma left behind and be pulled along by it, rapidly growing in power and speed as it does. Projectiles of this nature will also follow the path in a slight spiral towards their target that very slowly widens its arc at longer ranges.

The Stabilizer eats up more energy than any of his other Moves or equipment. While it is charging from his body, his Sp. Attacks and Sp. Defense-based Moves only operate at about 90% power. When it is fully charged but not in use or when he is not wearing the device, this effect does not apply.

The Stabilizer was built by Pokemon from the legendary super-guild known as the Schools' League, which would explain the human-like level of technology that has gone into its construction. He himself doesn't completely understand how it works, but he knows enough to fix it from replacement parts that he has with him should it break.

Other

-Hyval is left-handed
-Has a noticable Cuteness Overload factor, with a particular penchant for other Electric-types. Easily the best way to break his usual calm.
-Wears his ears slicked back most of the time, even when not wearing the helmet. They've kind of stuck that way...

Biography:

Hyval Fesko is a navigation, weather, and safety expert belonging to an unknown foreign Team from a Region known as Sagebrush. He's apparently some manner of advanced scout for his Guild, but while he doesn't necessarily lack it, he doesn't seem to have the same thirst for adventure that you would normally find in such a far-traveling expeditionary. It's clear that he's enthusiastic about some things, but his personality is so middling that it's sometimes hard to tell whether he is or not.

Hyval's personality can be tough to tie down. He's quiet if not particularly shy, yet, he's somehow also very excitable. If there was any single word that could describe him it would be 'reserved' or 'moderate'. There looks to be a threshhold to his emotions where any output from him just stops as if he's embarassed to show more. Make no mistake, he's very friendly, but you'll likely have to be the one to approach him first. Once you get past his kind of distant exterior, he's just as friendly and emotional as anybody else. Downright sentimental in fact. He likes to take his time to think over his decisions, and look over every possible outcome just so he can be fair and thorough. This unfortunately leads to his tendency to fluster when something doesn't quite go his way, and he can quickly fall behind on a task if he has too many of these decisions to make. This kind of trait can cause problems for someone working in something so quick-moving as aviation, but his skill allows him to make do.

Hyval is very perceptive to detail, which syncs up well for his job as a navigator. His primary job seems to be to be related to some kind of charting, which when asked about he refers to with notable gusto as him drawing a 'Map of the Sky'. He's often spotted flying peak to peak at the tops of tall mountains, stopping at each one and unpacking his curious set of tools before recording everything he sees. His skill at flying appears to play into this somehow. He seems particularly capable at flying without being able to see his surroundings. His unusual training also allows him and presumedly his companions to be able to map out Mystery Dungeons and other such areas with highly anomalous properties.

Hyval's Team works for the organization known as the Aviation Alliance, a guild whose primary purpose is to study the art-- and science-- of the Flying-type. They look to unite the world by connecting it with advanced methods of flight and are most notable for being the first group in the world that has seriously attempted to "Give Flight to non-Flying-type Pokemon". Few know exactly what that means. Some think it's just hopeful rhetoric. Some say they just lift non-Flying Pokemon up on their wings. Some of their own Team members say that they look to achieve this by constructing great flying machines by which any Pokemon can take to the skies...

...but that's ridiculous.

The Alliance seems to know what they're doing if nothing else. Flying-type Pokemon that claim to come from them are always exceptional fliers with exotic tactics and unusually extensive knowledge of the intricacies of flight. So far thus seen, they seem to have a sophisticated network of merchants and... meteorologists... at their disposal that have thus far proven competent at their jobs in supporting their guild back home, wherever that is. Given their connection to the legendary over-guild Sraithe Scoleanna (pronounced: Sree Skol-enna and also known as the Schools' League), which explains some of their access to technology reminiscent of that found in humans' ruins, who knows? Maybe they will someday put other Pokemon in the air.

So, who are these oh-so-legendary Sraithe Scoleanna, you ask? Well theirs is a story for another time.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good gosh, this all took so much more work than it should have, but I've finally done it! I finally drew my Pokesona!

Not an approximation of one like Lime or Ford, but my actual 'sona! It doesn't seem like a big deal to you guys, but, it is something of one to me.

Just like with a certain other Pokemon, that helmet was for one reason another a nightmare to draw. I had to restart my drawings at least three or four times just because of how difficult it was to draw that helicopter pilot helmet correctly. I even contemplated dropping it entirely, but thankfully I was eventually able to find a good way to draw it.

Nevermind that it is much more complex to draw than Diarmaid's relatively simple comb morion, I found that it sits on a human's head and an Emolga's rather differently. That sort of shield for the see-through visor on the forehead sits on both the brow and the front of the scalp, but the proportions for that are just so different between the two species that it practically made the helmet look different which didn't look nice and guuuhhh it was a mess! I wound up just letting it hang back on the head a little bit and leaving a little of the forehead exposed... which wound up being just the same as it sits on humans anyway.

For those looking to draw helmets like this one, here's a friendly hint: Start with the shield for the visor. That plate that comes off of the brow with the ridge in the middle.

I'm glad I was able to keep it in. I consider it some kind of trophy now, that my Pokesona actually wears it rather than just an aviation headset which would just be mistaken by most people for weird-looking headphones anyway. And how many OCs have those already?

Speaking of which, those bumps on the side do have headphones in them for his radio. I know what you're thinking, but my reasoning is that it's close enough to his ears that he'll hear what's being said on them in most cases anyway.

If you managed to get all the way to the bottom here, thanks for sticking around to read it all. I hope you like what's here :D
