Application for Team Contractors for :iconrival-gates:

Updated 03/20/2016: Up to date as of the end of Job 2. 1x Furniture Voucher, 1x Rough Soap, 1x On-Time Badge and 10 Meobans added.

Quick Reference:

Darian (Young Adult?): This stone-faced serious, cunning Vulpix has sharpened his senses to a razor edge, and is smart enough to rework most any strategy to fit the situation on the fly. He's a little less serious outside of work, but absolutely nothing will distract him from fulfilling his employer's requests, whatever they may be.
Voice: Chris Fries

Lime (Young Adult/Late Adolescent?): A thoughtful little fellow that seems to have equal parts excitement and control, this temperate Emolga can find interest in anything-- mostly in girls. His speed has certainly been matched before, but his strength lies in his unrivaled nimbleness; Lime can turn on a dime at speeds that would make most Flying types' heads spin. He's also very handy with tools.

Full Profile:

(There is a heavily burned article of paper seeming to contain someone's observations on Team Contractors)
Team 'Contractors', as they are now called, were originally sent to the Huana region by ████████████, a group of Pokemon that ████████ █████ █████ for the purpose of ███ ████ █████. They're purpose as a whole is not entirely known, but what is known is that they ████████ █████ ████████ ████████ from █████ ███████ and may or may not be looking to ███████ or at least hope to ████████ their home region of █████████ through the use of █████ ████████. As is evident by their scuffles with █████ ████████ ██████ they ████ ███████ █████, and ████████ ██████ █████████ █████████ ███████...
(The rest of the page is either blanked out or burned away in too many places and is not legible)

Lime the Emolga and Darian the Vulpix, also known as 'Team Contractors', were originally part of a foreign Team sent to Huana by their guild(?) to ...well, it's not quite clear. Neither like revealing much detail aside from that they wanted to see Rift City, though they seem to be unusually well-trained for a random Explorer Team on extended vacation. They're a bit of a shady duo despite their lack of apparent troublemaking, and don't usually interact a whole lot with other Teams outside of guild work. When they are on guild jobs, they tend towards formality and a little pragmatism. They do the job, they collect their pay, and lock themselves back into their hovel of a guild housing without a word-- presumably to continue plotting the downfall of all Pokemon kind, or perhaps just because they tend to exert themselves a little too much on guild missions and are tired. Both are equally plausible, really, from how little they talk to others.

The Contractors advertise themselves as a group of "Security Contractors" that specialize in "Aerial Rocket Artillery", whatever those mean. It's probably referring to their focus on Lime's speed and hard-hitting 'Rocket Rush' 'move'. Their strategies largely seem to be based on a number of pre-prepared maneuvers and designed primarily around heavy use of Flying-types. They also tend to involve working with other Teams on their missions despite their tendency to keep to themselves outside of work. Despite this, said strategies tend to be complex and organized enough that they have a tangible edge over some opponents.

A little more straight-forward are their services as "Aerial Logistics" specialists, meaning that they ferry items around quickly for pay. Usually at Lime's expense.

Darian "Echoes" Disney the Vulpix
Age: Young Adult?
Voice: Chris Fries

...known as 'Echoes' within the Contractors, is the leader of the Team, and does he ever act like it. Always formal, the ever stone-faced Vulpix is rarely seen without his sunglasses on, and speaks in a professional near-monotone most of the time that would have you feel like he's giving you instructions when he's just making normal conversation. The few times that he will talk to you, that is. Darian seems very reserved and tight-lipped, rarely speaking to anyone besides Lime unless he has reason to. He often takes his time time to think over his decisions, but can sometimes overthink them often enough that he comes off to some as indecisive. While he appears a bit dry and sometimes even intimidating, he's by no means an antagonistic 'mon, even if he doesn't always necessarily mean well.

Below his stoic shell, however, is a shy and uncertain Vulpix whose more unsure about his own future than anything else. His soldier-like facade is simply what he feels the most confident in. He'll probably open up eventually, but as of yet, he's just not comfortable in his new environment.

He's still pretty cold though.

Darian has sharpened his senses to a razor edge, to the point that he could even say that he is more skilled at sensing other Pokemon and their Moves than using his own. Indeed, he is as likely to use Lime's attacks as an extension of his own will as he is to use his own. In the event that Lime is not available to help, he's capable enough to hold his own against a number of opponents, able to use his quick wit and senses to size up and react to near anything that can be thrown at him. Whether he can actually beat them without Lime is another story. While both he and Lime are both able to fight without Moves, Darian being on the ground and closer to the action means he can show his 'unarmed' combat more, and he's rather good at it. All that said, he expresses a lack of interest in fighting beyond simply being paid for it, and so despite his skill his disinterest can harm his performance from time to time.

Honestly, he'd much rather just be swimming right now.

Also, who has a surname these days?

Nature
Serious
Guild work is serious business. You took the contract, do the job. If you can enjoy it like Lime, good, if not, just think about the pay-off.

Characteristic:
Thoroughly Cunning
Sometimes smoking out the more wily crooks takes thinking a deal like them too: Quickly, and on your feet.

Ability:
Flash Fire "OK, now? I'm sure I'm angry!"
Fire-type and Heat-based attacks do no damage, and he is able to absorb the heat hitting his body to bolster his own fire.

Moves:
Fire Spin "Target marked."
Used in tandem with Lime's Rocket Rush, usually uses this move to disorient and mark targets that Darian wants Lime to attack. Even if the opponent notices this and avoids the impending Rocket Rush, at least they're on fire.
Imprison "He's all yours."
Also usually used with Lime's Rocket Rush, Darian uses this move to lock an enemy in place.

Will-o-Wisp "Little close, deploying defense."
Darian creates a number of moderately-sized fireballs that he can manipulate with his mind. Used defensively, to keep opponents at bay and occasionally to harass them away from attacking Lime. The number of fireballs generally ranges from around six to nine, twelve with his Charcoal Bandolier turned on. He can also be seen playing with a number of small fireballs when he's bored.
Extrasensory "I warned you."
Assaults an opponent's mind with input their brains aren't meant to handle. This usually manifests as impaired vision, painful hallucinations, non-existent colors, and a steadily increasing, unpleasant ringing in the ears. Used defensively to disorient attackers, usually when he's cornered, or to █ █ █ .
Flame Burst "Deploying explosives!"
Darian creates an orb of plasmatic fire that flies through the air and explodes upon contact with a surface. Not incredibly impressive on its own, but...

Special 'Moves':
Alpha Raid "Target marked and stunned. Standard for Time on Target, let him have it."
Rocket Rush (Lime)  + Fire Spin (Darian)
Using his sharp senses, Darian locks an enemy into place while they are off balance (i.e. recovering from an attack, taking a step) with Imprison and Fire Spin, extended with precise use of Will-o-Wisp. He directs all members of his team to strike the one target at the same time with all the Special Attack power that they have available, hopefully obliterating the poor 'mon on the other side. This isn't all that useful at the moment with just himself and Lime, but if he had more Pokemon with the same training as him...

Burst Strike (NEW)
"Point defenses deployed."
Will-o-Wisp + Flame Burst
Darian creates a maximum of three explosive Flame Burst orbs that he can manipulate with Will-o-Wisp. While he does not exert as much control over these orbs as he does Will-o-Wisp by itself, he can 'load' each of these orbs and prepare to throw them by having them float in a tight circle around his body. He can launch them accurately, one at a time, towards targets with which he has line of sight and guide them slightly as they fly. Naturally, they will explode upon contact with a surface or an Attack.
These orbs can be detonated while they are close to his body to hurt him, however, his sharp senses can usually tip him off to those that try to do this.

Cavitating Charge (NEW) "Grenade!"
Will-o-Wisp + Flame Burst + Flammable Object
Any small flammable object that Darian sets alight with his Will-o-Wisp he can keep on fire so long as some part of his mind is concentrated on it. This didn't have too much utility to him in the past, but now his mini-flames can explode. These small objects can be thrown and the Will-o-Wisps turned into Flame Burst orbs. At this point, Darian can cause the Flame Bursts to contact each other and collapse, releasing significant amounts of explosive force.

Items:
Charcoal Bandolier- A bundle of charcoal briquettes, tied into a bandolier and wrapped around Darian's stomach. By lighting these on fire, he can jumpstart his own Flash Fire ability and power himself up by about 50% in an emergency. It also gives the added benefit of setting his own body on fire, which is usually enough to make any opponent that was thinking about using a physical attack pause. He's fond of grabbing two of the bricks and clubbing enemies with their burning mass. Who needs Moves to fight well? Only lasts as long as the charcoal doesn't burn out. Not available to him on Guild missions. He can sometimes be seen chewing one of them like a lollipop.

Heliotrope A device that is sort of an in-between of signal mirrors and telescopes. Darian uses this to communicate with Lime in code from long distances, which works so long as he has line of sight. Usually mounted on his hat during missions. As this item is not a weapon, the Guild allows him to use it on missions.

Limerick "Lime" Philo Ford the Emolga
Age: Young Adult?/Later Adolescent?
Voice: Toby Maguire

...known as 'Lime' within the Contractors, is the nimble, agile Aerial Scout of the Team, though you wouldn't be able to tell just by talking to him. Lime's mind is better described as a calm, collected intelligence rather than the quick wit normally expected of ace fliers such as himself. His methodical and calculated approaches to problems would surprise some that his job requires that he goes so fast. In fact, if his personality as a whole could be summed up in two words, those words would be 'controlled excitement'; he is always rearing to go and excited to get a job done, but is rarely so excited that he charges into things uncomposed. Lime can find a deep interest in almost anything, which keeps him in good spirits the majority of the time-- particularly if those things have to do any with crafting or flying. Everything he does has some sort of significance to someone else, and as long as he can find what that is, he can be satisfied that he is helping that someone. This need to feel useful is born partially out of a sort of insecurity that he is not, but really, what harm is there in wanting to be helpful, right? His quietly optimistic outlook gives him an aura of inviting warmth in contrast to the reclusiveness the Contractors are known for. That said he is still a Contractor, and as such he displays a surprising amount of formality and professionalism for someone that smiles as often as he does, but not to the point that his partner Darian does.

Lime does most of the direct work in Team Contractors, but it would be wrong to call him the 'muscle' to Darian's 'mind'. It would be more fair to say he's the 'execution' to Darian's 'strategy'. He is just as intelligent as Darian is, maybe even a little more so, but in different ways. Even if he at times doesn't seem like he is. Lime is extremely skilled at flying, as denoted by his moniker. While there are other Pokemon that can fly faster than him, where he truly shines is his unrivaled finesse in the air. Lime is extremely adept at controlling his movement at high speeds, able to turn sharply at speeds that other, faster Pokemon might not be able to. While doing so, he can also hurl a flurry of Moves with such precision that one would think he had hours to aim his shots. Lime also seems more familiar with the Ancients' designs than the average Pokemon, and so he is rather handy with a toolkit in paw, with a notable talent for fashioning equipment and items out of scrap he finds around the ruins of Rift City.

Nature:
Mild
Lime's a very temperate and controlled little fella.

Characteristic:
Often Lost in Thought
A little meaningful thinking now and then can really help you appreciate, or at least notice, the little things in your life.

Ability:
Motor Drive "Thanks, I was just about to increase my pitch!"
Lime becomes faster when hit with Electric-type attacks, and is immune to damage from them.

Moves:
Charge "Loading up, gimme a second!"
Used in tandem with his Electrical attacks (meaning Volt Switch) to create multiple kinds of the same projectile. It takes a minute to prepare, but fully charged and on his game, Lime can fire off up to six to eight Volt Switches in the span of a second.
Volt Switch "Flying in to provide close support in 3, 2, 1...!"
Lime's main attack. He can use individual Volt Switch attacks, but his signature way of using it has him creating six to eight weak versions of it and holding them back, then slowly bringing them up to full with Charge. Combined further with his high speed, the impact of more than half a dozen projectiles smashing into a single target generates such explosive force that even Ground types will take some damage from the plasma's impact alone.
Acrobatics "He's on my tail!"
Used more of as a maneuvering tool than a physical attack, as Lime often carries his Aerial Battery when not on Guild missions. When he is on Guild missions, however, he isn't shy to getting into his opponent's face and rapidly smashing them down.
Pursuit "Read you, coming in for a low pass...!"
Lime's body radiates in Dark-aligned waves, which he uses by crashing violently into his target or releasing them to harm fleeing opponents. Also very useful against Psychic types that try to use Psychic to pluck him out of the air.

Special 'Moves':
Rocket Rush "Givin' 'em the whole nine yards!"
Charge + Volt Switch
His signature move, Lime unloads a massive payload of six to eight Volt Switch projectiles, causing formidable damage to a precise area through a combination of electricity, heat, and if he's flying fast enough, explosive force.

Items:
Battery Pods- A set of ten rechargeable batteries, mounted on the back of his patagium over his biceps (that is, the back of his wings). He uses this as a much more deadly means of using his 'Rocket Rush' attack, charging the pods up to full simply by using Charge alone rather than combining it with Volt Switch. When he approaches a target, he simply uses his Volt Switch, which drains the energy from the Pods into ten individual orbs, hurling all of them simultaneously wherever Lime is aiming. By using the Pods instead of his Moves on their own, he not only drastically increases his damage output, but also increases the speed at which he can attack. It's unfortunate that he can't use it on Guild missions, but well, perhaps he needed to train his body to go without those anyway. Outside of Guildwork, he usually carries them for self-defense.

Heliotrope- A device that is sort of an in-between of signal mirrors and telescopes. Lime uses this to communicate with Darian in code from long distances, which works so long as he has line of sight. Usually mounted on his helmet. As this item is not a weapon, the Guild allows him to use it on missions.

-------

Phew, I love how this app turned out! Well, the individual pictures anyway, if not so much the app itself ^^;. I particularly like how well Darian turned out. Never drawn a Vulpix before.

You guys probably don't recognize them, but Lime and Darian were actually characters bound for their own PMD stories, Lime's story being a group of Pokemon that venture in the ruins of a massive human city in an effort to restore the technology for themselves, and Darian's being a sequel taking place in the same city around 200 years after its events. Both of their stories are a ways off from being written yet, so I wanted to use this Rival Gates as an opportunity to flesh out their characters while they waited.

Lime is pretty much still Lime, but Darian actually has had a few changes to his personality. In his original form, Darian was a character drenched in indecision and uncertainty about his life, which this version of him does have but he expresses it differently. Original Darian responded to his situation by being shy and openly benevolent after hours-- this was because he had a place away from his duty to just relax with his friends. Rival-Gates's version of Darian, however, is not comfortable enough around any of his fellow Cinders besides Lime-- yet-- to show his soft side, and so the indecisive, professional facade stays on for much longer.
